![]() If you’ve been following my articles, you already know I don’t sugarcoat anything. I tackle topics like a bull in a china shop and call it like I see it. And today, I’m coming for the biggest myth of all--“Free Healthcare”. Yes, I said it. The sacred phrase that makes Americans dream of a utopia where you walk into a hospital, get treated like royalty, and leave without so much as a bill. Let me stop you right there. That. Is. A. Lie. Nothing in life is free, my friends. And when it is, we side-eye it like an expired coupon. Imagine you’re standing on a street corner, minding your business, and a guy in a hoodie walks up, hands you a crisp $100 bill, and says, “No catch, just take it.” What do you do? You hesitate. Because deep down, we all know--nothing good comes without a price. And healthcare is no different. America’s Sick-Care vs. Europe’s Not-So-Free Healthcare Let’s be real. The U.S. doesn’t have a healthcare system—it has a sick-care system. It doesn’t prioritize wellness; it stabilizes you when you’re already on life support. And sure, insurance companies are basically villains in an 80s action movie, denying claims like they get a commission for it (spoiler: they do). But here’s where people get it twisted: Europe doesn’t have free healthcare either. I know, because I’ve lived here for over a decade, and trust me, I’ve seen behind the curtain. Italy: The Only Semi-Free Unicorn (With a Side of Bureaucratic Madness) Italy is probably the closest thing to actual free healthcare. Regardless of whether you have a job, no job, or just sit around eating pasta all day (no judgment), you’re covered. Sounds dreamy, right? Well, hold on—because there’s a catch. The system is so “helpful” that it starts scheduling appointments for you without your consent. You’ll wake up one morning to a letter saying, “Congratulations! You have a doctor’s appointment in three days at 8 AM across town. Don’t be late!” Try to reschedule? Ha! They’ll just send you more appointments. It’s like a stalker, but instead of love letters, you get mandatory checkups. Good luck holding down a full-time job when your week is packed with mystery medical visits. Germany & Austria: Where “Free” Costs You €1,000 a Month Germany and Austria LOVE to brag about their “amazing” healthcare system. And sure, it’s solid—until you realize it costs up to €1,000 per month for a middle-aged, healthy person. But don’t worry, they split it! Your employer pays half, and you pay the other half. Isn’t that nice? Except…you’re still paying. Oh, and in most European countries, it’s illegal to NOT have health insurance. That’s right. If you decide you’re feeling healthy and don’t want to pay those hefty fees, the government will find you and fine you. So let’s recap: ✔️ Not optional. ✔️ Not free. ✔️ You WILL pay, whether you like it or not. Sounds a lot like…taxes, doesn’t it? The One Thing Europe Gets Right (Take Notes, America!) Now, I will give credit where it’s due. The European system doesn’t judge you. Got sick on vacation? They cover you. Got sick because of a dumb decision? They still cover you. Got sick because you tried to wrestle a bear while drunk? Guess what? They still cover you. Unlike the U.S., where insurance companies will dig through your medical history like an FBI agent just to find a reason not to pay, Europe treats everyone equally. That’s a concept America might want to borrow. Also, they prioritize preventative care. Meaning, instead of waiting for you to collapse, they actually try to keep you healthy. What a concept! The Bottom Line: Healthcare is NEVER Free I know, I know. Some of you are still holding onto the dream of walking into a hospital, getting top-tier treatment, and skipping out without a bill. It doesn’t exist. In the U.S., you pay through insurance premiums, deductibles, and copays. In Europe, you pay through taxes, mandatory insurance, and “split payments” that make you feel like it’s free (but it’s not). Either way, you’re paying. The real question is, which system gives you the most for your money? Personally, I think America could take a few notes from Europe—like prioritizing actual health instead of just treating sickness. But let’s stop pretending there’s a magical “free” option out there, because healthcare is a business, not a charity. And that’s where wellness comes in. See, wellness is more than just a one-time treatment when you’re sick—it's about maintaining and improving your health consistently, before you’re on life support. It’s a proactive approach, not a reactive one. It’s about the small lifestyle changes, the balance, the mental clarity, and the physical strength that keeps you from ever needing that emergency care in the first place. And here’s the kicker—wellness doesn’t come with surprise bills or insurance claims that leave you wondering if you’re getting the “care” you paid for. Here's something you may not expect: I 'm offering a free one hour wellness consultation - no strings attached. Yet some potential clients still prefer to email me instead, as though they don’t believe me when I say “free.” It’s like they think I’m secretly hiding some kind of trap—waiting to pounce with a “gotcha!” moment. But here’s the deal—sometimes “free” really does mean free. No hidden agendas, no upselling you a 12-month package at the end of the call. It’s just me, one-on-one, helping you get on the right track, with no strings attached. If you’re the type who thinks, “If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is,” I get it. It’s like those times you get an email that says, “Congratulations! You’ve won a million dollars!”—you’re waiting for the fine print that asks you to send $1000 to claim your “prize.” But here’s the difference: My wellness consultation really is just that—a genuine, free, hour-long opportunity to work with me and discuss how we can optimize your health. No gimmicks, no secret catches. So go ahead, grab the chance—what have you got to lose? Except maybe a little skepticism, and that’s not such a bad thing!
